I would definatley agree their later work is more 'mature', lyrically and musically. But when it comes down to quality, and how good the songs actually are; it's about even. I love every song on Deja, but I don't think I love any of them as much as this:

I love Your Favourite Weapon...its a great album. But its just not even in the same boat as Deja and The Devil and God. Those 2 albums are absolute masterpieces. Two of the greatest albums Ive ever heard.

Daisy is definitely completely different from any of their previous records. The rip I got is really ****ty so I'll wait and reserve final judgment after I have the hard copy, but I really like what I'm hearing in general.

Its a weird album, caught me completely off guard. I need to give it a few more listens before I can really judge it.

The title infers that the 'Me' person (ie. the writer) is comparing himself to Maradona and Elvis, two famous people in their respected fields (sports/music), but who squandered their talents on drugs or something of the like. In comparing himself to those two people, and singing about a drunken hook-up, he's saying that losing your life/talent to something so trivial is just as easy as a drunken hook-up... That's the definition that I was spoonfed. Seems a bit farfetched but it also fits the tone of the song. |
