It's the bad memories that let you treasure the good memories even more, besides I like being a miserable old git sometimes

A lot of crappy late-90s pop brings back memories of sitting in a taxi on the way to school every morning. Not bad memories exactly, just very boring ones

I agree with that, but sometimes the bad memories are just so unpleasant and they're so strongly associated with a given album that it's pretty much unbearable. I don't really have a problem with albums that helped me through crummy times, because at least I know they have some theraputic value. The albums that just seem to drag me back to a bad time and leave me...well, those are the ones I can't play.

You've just described my experiences with Brothers In Arms, except it was a regular bus and not a taxi. Come to think of it, I wore down dozens of cassettes on the bus ride to school.
