I don't know what's so charming about it, but I'm so obsessed with this video right now.

Damnit. I can't find another at the moment. It was The Cure one where they're in the closet. With the comb. You know the one.

And now I dislike them all over again. It's a strange relationship.

Me too, I think they used to scare a lot of people. Hence why most of them were censored or not shown at all. I love them though, I think they're amazing and very creative and weird.

Indeed. Me and a few friends used to obsess over Lateralus and its dark hooks and crazy drumming. We'd turn that record way loud on most days and even more nights. I guess I'm not an angry teenager anymore.

Aw. Is this why you don't like them anymore? I used to think their music was dark and angry when I was an angsty teenager but listening to it now at age 20 I see there's a lot of light in their music as well.

Oh how I love the story telling of The Decemberists.

Okay, I confess that I didn't stop listening to them seriously until early last year. What happened was that 10,000 days was just too long, and all was left was Lateralus for me (I didn't own the previous efforts, not even A(e)nima) and I didn't feel like waiting another 5 years, and A Perfect Circle just wasn't doing it. So I deciphered all the little hints and nuances of the album (mainly how the title song progresses in a mathematical pattern), and got over the drumming, and I was left with "well, what now?"

I also developed an ear for more complex and patience rewarding records, and thought Tool were just too predictable after awhile. I just felt like I grew up, and Tool sounded too angry.

Though, to this day, I enjoy Lateralus. I coped to Parabol/Parabola for some time.

The main guy is a dude I know personally. I woke up at 2 am and watched this video play, and for the longest time I couldn't believe it was a friend of mine : P

You don't own any previous efforts? You gotta get your hands on Aenima and Undertow. I can PM them to you if you like. Although they are angrier than Lateralus so they just may not do it for you.

P.S. that's so cool that you know that dude!

You would? I'd like that.

And, yeah, I talked to him about it and he was surprised that I knew. I was like, "what!?" because Stars are huge in the Canadian indie scene. "You'll have girls flocking to you in no time!" I said, but he wouldn't believe me. Surely, they did.

Yeah that's awesome. Stars are even pretty huge in the indie scene over here!

& I'll upload the albums and PM them to you sometime this week :)

All the embedding is disabled from the YouTube videos at the moment, it seems, so don't feel too bad.

Heh. I think that's my favorite in this thread so far.

Here's a classic, Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy":

"One" is a good video, but really credit for that one goes to the movie Johnny Got His Gun which is where are the cool clips in that video come from. If you've never seen it, it's a great movie (and book) by the way.

I haven't sadly, i know that they had to buy the entire rights for it for the video though.

For me those 3 videos signify what all videos should be about: Random/funny, arty/freaky and just plain moving.

I'd highly recommend both the movie and the book. It's the only case I'm aware of where the author of a book actually wrote and directed the film adaptation of his own work. Really good stuff.

briennemay 11-20-2008 11:53 AM

There are tons and I can't think of all of them right now but the first one that comes to mind is KoRn's "Freak On A Leash"......Amazing concept!

The Unfan 11-20-2008 12:34 PM

Takes a bit to get to the music, but I'm pretty sure its the best video ever made.

Guybrush 11-20-2008 12:53 PM

Wynona's Big Brown Beaver by Primus .. I'm not sure what the appeal is, but it's there.

Youtube didn't have a good version, but I found one on this site.

Primus Wynona's Big Brown Beaver Music Video on IMEEM Video

Also, ehr, I also like Benny Bennasi's Satisfaction. Not the song, just the video.

That song used to play about 3 times every shift when I worked clothing retail.

Babalon A.D. by Cradle of Filth has always been a favorite of mine.....it's strangely sexy in a fucked up way.

The song is OK but the vid is great:

Quality vid:

Brings back some memories (it was one of their few covers):

Because it's such a great version of the song:

Because this guy is amazing. this is how you cover Portishead:

sweet_nothing 11-22-2008 03:37 PM

The Verve- Bitter Sweet Symphony

This is one of the first music video I've ever seen one of the most memorable.

Coldplay- The Scientist

Wether you love or hate Coldplay (knowing this site you probably hate them) this is a great video, the fact that Chirs Martin had to learn how to sing it backwards shows the bands commitment.

Radiohead- No Surprises

Basing an entire video around the lead singer's head may sound crazy, but only Radiohead could pull it off and make it amazing.

Blur- Cofee & TV

This should of been made into a film.

Farfisa 11-22-2008 03:40 PM

Caribou - Yeti (Dreadnaught for showing me this. :) )

Suicide - Ghost Rider

Lilys - Nanny In Manhattan

Psychic Ills - Another Day Another Night

simplephysics 11-22-2008 03:45 PM

Ha, I don't think I've ever watched the entire video. It's fitting.
