The absence of Mike Patton was the biggest fail ever. But Rolling Stone is always disproportionately kind to pop and RnB artists.
I was happy to see Tom Waits there at all, but I can't imagine he got there by popular vote. Editor must have sneaked him in.

As for the list, Rolling Stone still wants to pull away from bands they precieve as being played in Pick-up Trucks. As Sam accuratly pointed out, RS is still fighting for civil rights, voting for McGovern, and reversing their decisions. The reporting is decent, but their lists are making up for past sins.
