The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time (metal, elvis presley, Kurt Cobain, title)

This list was yet another predictable and boring list from Rolling Stone. I'm sure most of us could've easily guessed with 99% accuracy what names RS would pick.

Funny how all the greatest singers of all time just happened to have cropped up in the past 50 years and exclusively in english speaking countries.

Not a bad list, in my opinion. Lists are cool (before ordered), but I will admit it is one of the better lists from Rolling Stone.

It doesn't contain everyone deserving but I think Aretha Franklin was a decent choice. You have to remember the emotion and feeling that is emitted from their songs. But that differs between all people.

Rolling Stone is still a sellout but still an ok list.

I think they are trying to find a way to justify their placement of Elvis third on the list of the best artist of all time. He didn't play any instruments (at least not on the records) and didn't write songs; singing is the only thing he could do and this list was the only opportunity RS had to place him high up on a list measuring talent and ability.

Yeah, I never got the big deal about Elvis. Little Richard and Chuck Barry>>>>>>>>>>Elvis Presley for 50's rock and roll, in my opinion.

I was happy to see Tom Waits there at all, but I can't imagine he got there by popular vote. Editor must have sneaked him in.

His fan base is an opressed minority. Their going to vote for him regardless of the the catagory is for, their pissed he's undersold.

As for the list, Rolling Stone still wants to pull away from bands they precieve as being played in Pick-up Trucks.

As Sam accuratly pointed out, RS is still fighting for civil rights, voting for McGovern, and reversing their decisions. The reporting is decent, but their lists are making up for past sins.

I can't see many truckers blasting Mr. Bungle or Fantomas down the road, but that's just me.

And somehow, Axl Rose made the cut. Which is ridiculous.

Did any opera singers make the list? Or jazz singers for that matter?

Mike Patton nowhere near a list of the 100 greatest singers sounds about the only thing they got right.
