I still don't think I can vote, but I'm tempted to go for 2006, though 2008 has been pretty good. A year from the 90's would be another option. Might go for 1977, though, not so much because I'm familiar with that year, but because of the punk rock explosion.
I just don't know.

I don't know about best, but 1969 was a good year. Some immortal jazz albums, some folk, birth of prog and krautrock, plenty of classic rock, Zappa's greatest album IMO and loads of psychedelic gems I haven't mentioned. And any other music of which I'm ignorant.
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King Beatles - Abbey Road Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage Miles Davis - Bitches Brew The Kinks - Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) Amon Duul - Phallus Dei Pink Floyd - Ummagumma Soft Machine - Second Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed Frank Zappa - Hot Rats Led Zeppelin - I and II Fleetwood Mac - English Rose Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left Sly - Stand! Can - Monster Movie Yes - S/T Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline CCR - Willy and the Poor Boys Allman Brothers Band - Debut S/T Os Mutantes - Mutantes Pentangle - Basket of Light Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica

Depends what I want to listen to.
I mean if i'm in the mood to listen to some banging techno i'm not likely to vote for 1969 or 1977 am I.
