Default Grad Student Proposing Something New

I'm in the thick of my thesis work for my Masters in Music Business (sounds like an oximoron, I know...) and I need fellow musicians' opinions on a "center" I'm proposing. It's basically a place where all of us striving entrepreneurs can go and network and have access to the "tools" we need to be successful in the rapidly changing music industry. This shout also goes out to anyone who works or WANTS to work in a studio, or live sound environment. Please go to http://aemmp.colum.edu/survey.htm and give me your feedback! It's quick and painless - I promise!

no offense, but this doesnt sound like a good thesis paper. I was thinking, this "center" that you speak of seems unnecessary. what "tools" are you talking about exactly? what does this center have that the internet does not offer?

The answer, to me, is quite simple: All of the knowledge you could glean from the Internet holds little value in comparison to face-to-face interaction. Just a simple conversation, let alone a collaboration, with someone who knows what you want to know or does what you want to do will help you grow much faster as an artist than going on the Internet and surfing. Have you even looked at the ideas I'm proposing for the center? Either way, I thank you for your feedback. From your profile, I see that you are about 20 yrs. old and it is important to know what your generation finds of value.

Hey MyWorld,
I'm only 29... only - ugh... that's hard for a woman to say But I've got almost 10 yrs. on Oi and I definitely feel those years when I talk with someone that much younger. After my undergrad studies, I worked as a sound engineer for 5 yrs. and DJ'ed at a heavy metal station for a few of those years as a side job. I always wanted to go on for more schooling (I'm sick in the head, I guess!) but got sucked into my jobs - they were cool! Now I'm finally doing the grad thing... but will be out in the "real world" again soon... and I can't wait!

your comment about my age and "talk with someone that much younger" was unnecessary. i responded to your post with honesty and intention to help, not insult you. I'm sorry you were looking for responses from specific age groups, maybe your proposal should state that explicitly. i respect that you are going to grad school, but is age so significant? Next winter, i too plan on going to grad school and i will only be 21. when you step into the "real world", you might want to be careful with who you discrimate against and what things you generalize/stereotype.

haha, yeah you seem a bit tired, I guess typing is a lot harder with a huge lack of sleep. Drink red bull, I've been drinking that stuff all day to get me through my work. I've got 5 major exams, 4 huge art projects, an essay, and a major physics research project all due within the next two weeks.
