Waving Arms Over head??????

I was watching a recent Paul McCartney concert (on VH1 I think) and during one of the songs (maybe Hey Jude) everyone started waving their arms over their head like they were at a southern baptist revival. Is this some new age thing???

No I have never been to a concert before. Are they loud and people jump around and stuff?
