Epic Songs.

Songs that are ten minutes or longer. Love? Hate? Why take this long when three minutes will do? Or is it a more organic experience when a track does'nt need to rush itself? What are your favourites? Here is a couple of mine:

Underworld- Juanita/Kiteless:

( I actually prefer the 16 minute Banstyle/Sappy's Curry track bu found no link)

Marillion-Grendel (part one):

Grendel (part two):

Faith No More - Epic (I'm pretty sure the title is tongue-in-cheek)

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

The Fall - And This Day

The Doors - The End

Nick Cave - O'Malley's Bar

...are the only ones I can recall at the moment.

I definitely enjoy, as some songs of course simply need to be as long as they are (the above and the title track off Station To Station being prime examples)

'Epic' by FNM doesnt count. Needs to get over the ten minute mark or damn close.

"Why take this long when three minutes will do?"

I thought you were suggesting that it didn't need to be that long... Songs can certainly be epic without being enormous opuses.

The only 10+ minute song I can think of at the moment.
"Suicide" - Spacemen 3

pt. 1

pt. 2

I was trying to provide a possible counter argument within my statement...and failed. I will say that 'Epic' has not stood the test of time well at all.

:(

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Mike Patton's delivery in that song simply makes him sound like a bad version of Anthony Kiedis. Sucks, because the rest of the song (and album) is great. To be honest, funk metal hasn't stood the test of time well at all.

I saw FNM twice on the real thing tour and they were simply awesome but 'Epic' sounds forced somehow. The album as a whole is still great. Living Color still sound pretty good and Fishbones' 'Truth and Soul' album has dated well too.
