How about some love for the Monkees
I know their show was silly, ridiculous and immature. I know they are the first fabricated band. I know the bulk of their material was written and recorded by others but did they ever have some good songs. 60's pop at it's finest.

I agree. Their best songs were pure pop goodness. They don't have the cool factor, but "they" (the entire production that went into the Monkees) made some fantastically catchy songs.

The Mokees suffered a great deal from their Teeny Bopper image. Davy Jones wanting to dance to all his sugar-coated songs didn't help either
|
Davey Jones comes from my home town, as does Myra Hindley.
Both within spitting distance. But then again, so does Pete Shelley. :) Davey Jones is a music criminal. No love here. |
"Head" is a fantastic movie. I dig the Monkees.
|
Of course I dig the Monkees! They were dad's idol as a kid and some of that stuff passed down into me. I have their debut, 4 disc greatest hits, and their pepper's rip off.
|
Their instruments aren't plugged in.
Anyway, decent band, the few songs I've heard by them were OK. |
Oh, man...
One of the first albums i ever owned, and i still like 'em! |
Only their first two albums were written and instrumentally performed by others. They had a number of albums after those two that they did as a real band. Several of them very good.
|
They only did, what, 5 albums? i had the first 4. i was in luv with Peter Tork ~ even if he was a "dork!" (That's how we schoolgirls teased each other)
