I've only listened to the first few songs, it's the sort of album I wanna give a proper listen to first time rather than not pay attention to.

I like what I've heard though. I just wish the vocals were either had more of a presence when they appear or just weren't there at all because the musicianship is great and I'd rather they concentrated on that or made their vocal parts add to it. That's only from what I've heard so far though. It's not that it's bad but it's just not adding or taking away.

Looking forward to the rest of it and hope it delivers as I expect it will do.

You could be the first to break the mold.

Good pick on the Duritti Column as well, jackhammer. They've always held a special importance for me as a sound that I've tried to emulate in my own recording.

Echo & The Bunnymen- Heaven Up Here (1981)

Echo & The Bunnymen are quite simply one of Britains finest bands yet they always seemed to be lost amidst The Smiths hero worship. Their second album Heaven up Here is a classic from start to finish. They share that same post punk asthetic that Joy Division employed but E&TB always seemed to wrap their angst up in positive vibes. From the fantastic almost rock-like production to Will Sergeants hugely underated spiky angular guitar work, HUH soars and proved that you can still make intelligent, well performed music AND still imbue it with character and originality.

I guess another plaudit that you can lay at it's feet is that it does'nt sound dated and that is the mark of a great album. Particular faves: Over The Wall and Turqouise Days.

Einsturzende Neubauten- Kollaps (1981)

EN (easier to bloody type) are (along with Throbbing Gristle) one of the forerunners of Industrial Music. Todays Industrial is far removed from many of it's origins with guitar riffs or techno based keyboard riffs the order of the day. EN are that type of industrial, they literally are a band that utilises Industrial hardware and incorporate it into the music. This album (their debut) is less defined and less cohesive than their subsequent releases, as the band were experimenting with sounds and textures but that is why I appreciate it more. Electric drills, sanders, upturned tables and steel pipes are just some of the paraphenalia used. Over these sounds you have vocalist Blixa Bargeld using his voice in every way imaginable EXCEPT singing (although the title track employs a more melodious tone). He whispers, screams, rants, whoops and sighs all over proceedings. Guess what though? It works damn it. Of course it's not an album I play frequently but it is incredibly cohesive and eminently listenable. Every time you listen to it, you hear something new.

Music as an experiment is something that should be applauded, not derided and even though it wont be to many peoples tastes, I urge many of you to at least listen to it once and appreciate the sheer wild abandon of non conformity.

But seriously though, kollaps definitely ain't an easy listen. Halber Mensch is a bit more refined and listenable, but I like the weird nature of kollaps They have only been a recent discovery though and I haven't listened to much other than these two.

Echo & The Bunnymen - Never really checked them out although their name keeps coming up every now and then around these boards. I'll listen to it someday! When I'm done with these compilations.
