It's very hard for artist to be experimental nowadays; alot of the times the result is just a laughable pretentious mess other times it's a stroke of brilliance. Between those two extremes you have Tickley Feather; there's no hint of genius here and yes sometimes the music isn't exactly coherent but the oddities are more endearing then unnecessary and there's the charm. It's an amateur psychedelic pop album, with layers of vocals and odd noises all stuck in a lo-fi bubble and the rest is like a special high, where everything is oddly watery sounding but magical all the same.

Sounds interesting. Have you written many of these reviews beforehand? I'm trying to do that, I've done about 20.

sleepy jack 10-16-2008 11:30 PM

Nah I just do the list then write them as I post them.

I don't have the attention span to attempt something like this. And regardless, I don't seem to enjoy music enough...I've been compiling albums for about a month now and I'm not even close...around 45 or so.

ProggyMan 10-16-2008 11:40 PM

How many albums do you own? I've found that keeping an RYM account helps.

lucifer_sam 10-16-2008 11:50 PM

Me?

Not too many, around 1800 or so, so if I ever did manage to make a list of 100 of my favorites, it'd be 6% of my total collection. I think an album has to be really special before I would include it in a list like that.

I'm looking at the list now, and there aren't too many obscure artists on it. Moreover, half of albums on it are from the new millennium (as that was when I really started to appreciate music), so it draws a skewed portrait of my taste in music anyways.

Port O'Brien-The Wind and the Swell
A permanent add to my collection :D I'm a sucker for indie folk done right. That's what this simply is. There's a few dull spots but that's pretty much made up for by exceptionally goodness of other songs.
Really good songs: I Woke Up Today, My Eyes won't Shut, Five and Dime
Kind of boring: A Puffin, A Branch of You and Me, Tree Bones

Great album! My second favorite Squarepusher album, only after Music Is Rotted One Note. I actually like his weirdness. Damn freaky at times.
