I don't think there's anything wrong with liking any of those bands. I just think there's nothing personal about that list because all the song choices are the most obvious ones.

Obvious choices are usually good choices if perhaps safe and less interesting. Who wants to read a list of songs they've never heard of? I agree a mix of popular and more "personal" as you put it selections is best, but most of us are lying if we said we didn't like at least half those songs at sometime in our life.

I think you misunderstand what I was saying slightly.
When I was referring to obvious choices I wasn't talking about the bands I was talking about the song choices by those bands. It's like every choice of song on his list was the most well known song by that band. That's why I said it lacks the personal touch. I mean surely at least one other song by any of those bands must stand out for other reasons.

You know, if y'all would put together a little list of 25 artists/bands, and a certain album that they've done, maybe us n00bs could tell you our fav 1 or 2 songs, if we had any favs from that one. Not only that, but maybe some of the older members could sort of 'pair up' with the n00bs that, like, match their style.
Either that, or i could post another boringly generic list... |

I really like this list. Even though theres obvious bands, I like reading about songs that I haven't heard of, it opens doors. I mean, if someone thinks a song/band/album is so good it can surpass some great songs that I like, I will assume it has lots of musical merit, and will be inclined to check it out. As opposed to clatonisgod's list, which is all stuff I've heard year before, and thus bores me. |
