How to meet other musicians, music fans, etc?
I seem to only meet people that are into mainstream radio and pop and it annoys me. I've heard of a few music-specific dating sites like "Rock 'n Roll Dating" and such, but do they work? Seems unlikely, but might be fun. What other ways are there besides just being courageous out at shows?

By not living in Iowa.

Move to an area with a huge music scene and go into clubs and stuff.

sites like this.... keep an eye out for anyone who lives in the same area, and then follow them home, and make them be your friend
|
Music stores, shows... It's really not rocket science.

haha, thanks guys, those are all good ideas. It just seems like everyone is into pop and hiphop. Ugh! |
Move to a city, start a band and take advantage of groupies ;)
|
I know of people that listen to indie music (that actually live in the same area). All but one of them are Independent fagtoids.

Try to join a group of fans of a specific band. But be sure you also like the band. :D I have joined a mailing list of my favorite band and I have gained friends from there. Just friends though.:D
|
haha, i would'nt expect much more from a fanclub, but you never know!
|
Yeah you never know. You share the same interest, that could be the start of it all. But I joined the mailing list to have some updates and to make some connections with the band to gain backstage access during concerts. lol
|
yeah, my friend said she's met alot of people from the local chapters of the Tool and Pearl Jam fan clubs. I don't know if I want to meet people that are too fanatical about any one band, though, since I'm not.

madeloud.com is a good place to find other artists/indie music fans
other then that, have to agree with everyone else - move to a city that's got a great music scene (Ithaca, NY anyone?) |
