Default Albums or Mixes?

(sorry -- dont know how to make a poll
and i did a search for this topic but didnt find this subject --
if its a repeat
feel free to delete)

which do you prefer to listen to -- albums or mixes?

i usually only really like maybe 3 songs from any given album

(and sometimes from any given band )

so i always go for mixes

Your not listening to the right music then.

A good album will win EVERY TIME. Not just concept albums, but just good solid albums. There are countless ones in which every song is fantastic.

Try listening to albums differently.

Like when i hear a new album i always listen to it in order from start to finish. And even if you dont like a song in the begging just give it chance. I would say about 75% of the music i love today i had at one time thought it was utter garbage.

Sometimes you gota just go back and re listen, and you will find yourself appreciating something you had for years.

Lastly the WORST WAY to listen to an album is to just listen to the singles then hear the rest. That never turns out well. A well constructed album is made to be heard in a particuar order.

Do you mean mixes as in mixtapes, or compilations or something?
Either way it's albums all the way. I know its a cliched thing to say but they are art pieces in their own right.

Definitely albums. Any half decent album will flow together beautifully. They truly are, as PMO said, art pieces.

I'll give the cop-out answer and say that it depends. Sometimes it's best to sit through an album...sometimes you might just want to hear your favorite songs.

I don't think there's necessarily a certain way that tracks have to flow; the best examples I can think of are albums that were altered by the record companies (in America, "This Year's Model" ends with Radio, Radio, "The Stone Roses" has Elephant Stone stuck in the middle and Fool's Gold tacked on at the end) that seem to play better. The truth is that the album sequencing we hear is the one we get used to and, consequently, feel is the "right" order.

And, actually, I tend to play album sides instead of whole albums (pre-CD era albums, obviously). I always start playing Blonde On Blonde at track 9 and stop after track 13 (i.e., side 3 of the vinyl).

I can play an album all the way through even if I'm not particularly crazy about some tracks...but some tracks just call out to be skipped (Fiddle About on Tommy, Far Out on Parklife, Mary Queen Of Arkansas on Greetings From Asbury Park).
