Music Videos!
Hi, i am interested to find out what you think makes a good music video for a rock/ indie based track. For example, which of the following would make a music video successful?..
-The use of humour i.e ones which make you laugh - Random or relevant? Does the imagery need to be linked to the meaning of the song? - Visually interesting, the use of different camera and editing techniques -A video that tells a story If you can think of any personal favorites, feel free to share them and why you like them. Also, what do you dislike in a music video? Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks, Eden |

What i think makes a good video is having almost 100% translation rate from song to video. Meaning it can be funny, deep, action packed, as long as it fits the song and band.

I once saw a video/song ABOUT telling a story. So that poses a problem now doesnt it!

As long as it fits the song thats all that matters. I hate when people do vids that have zero percent to do with the song. Just make it coherent and youre golden.
Oh and performance scenes are of course a must (unlike hip hop videos). Flyleaf does good videos that are off the beaten path but artsy.

This is a classic video. A Sixto Rodriguez song and mesmerizing Ingmar Bergman footage. Bergman was so far ahead of his time, that we're still only half the way there.

I tend to prefer music videos that have a unique story element juxtaposed with striking visuals. Obviously, it has to match the tone of the song.
Another thing that is a must is tempo. If the pacing of the video and the cuts don't keep up with the song's tempo, then we have a problem. |
