Printscreen copies it to your clipboard. You then need to paste it to whatever you use, I use photoshop, paint will work.

Just Windows XP, professional edition.
Instead of having a multitude of garbage all over my upper desktop, I just got the program RocketDock that kinda emulates the Mac's thing, and you can put all your go to stuff there. Makes categorization a lot easier, and with dual monitors, I don't have to minimize my window in order to muck around with other stuff.

Likewise.
I even have a temp folder in my icon dock that holds transitory stuff. I won't ever let a single stray anything reside on my desktop ever.
I guess it's kinda OCD or whatever, but I never have to clean up after myself, so it really works out for the better.
