My list of "100 things that annoy me about music"!
First off, I am indeed ripping off 'Urban Hatemonger' here, and posting my top 100 things that annoy me about music.
Secondly, I know not everyone will agree with me, but this is my opportunity to voice some opinions of mine and gauge a reaction from people. You don't have to agree, to be honest, I don't give two, but respect my opinion and I shall respect yours. Don't come here to tell me Urban Hatemonger's is better, he is better known, more popular and knows more about certain areas of music than I do, but I know more in other areas. He is always going to have a better reaction to his statements than I. I'll be voicing my opinions as best I can, in no particular order, whatever is pissing me off on a particular day will be the topic of the next number in sequence. I will post a new one every day. So this will end in 100 days or so (depending) No haters please, it's not needed. And please don't quote the whole bulk of what I say. Only what you need, and not the picture. People quoting the whole thing annoys me on Urban Hatemonger's 100. |
#100 http://www.freewilliamsburg.com/arch...ty_311x406.jpg INDIE MUSIC And the indie kids and everything associated I don't know why, maybe it's the fact it's forced on me, or the fact that I love alternative music, but I literally HATE indie kids, indie music, and the whole indie scene. These people don't know music! They think music started with Oasis and Blur. I liked Blur until these blasted indie kids took it. I can't listen to the radio in my sixth form common room without being bombarded with this terrible, same-sounding, corporately made songs! They physically hurt my ears! Being forced to listen to 'Radiohead' or 'Bloc Party' (I hate them both so much) and I'm only being forced to listen to it because it's popular right now! I'm a grunger, always will be, I don't deny the fact that I've been labelled this. If anything it says Im doing it right. But as such, I don't find many people liking The Melvins, The Pixies or Mudhoney... I do find people worshipping idiots like The Automatic and Thing-things who I've /tried/ listening to, but end up wanting to kill myself! THEY SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME Now on to the clothing. All from Top-Shop or Top-Man... I hate it! I hate the look of it, it makes me feel ill! I hate the people wearing them (usually pompous little half wit guys, playing to the indie mould or anorexic girls with nothing better to do than be idiots). I was forced into a class with them in my previous Sixth Form... and all they do is make up ridiculous stuff and talk about pointless things! It bugs me completely that they're so hypocritical and how I'm being forced this stupid SCENE onto me. They all insulted me and took the micky out of anything I liked, but I knew the history of it, and fought back with facts, and these idiots (not all though, I'm sure) genuinely believe that music began with Radiohead... that bands like The Pixies never mattered. (although if you check up on it, Radiohead refused to play after the pixies, saying they could never follow such a great band) They honestly think that blues and the development of music doesn't matter. That classic rock bands ALL SUCK. I asked one to name a classic rock band... they said Oasis! OASIS! I told them they aren't and they refused to accept that Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Def Leppard, Van Halen or Judas Priest did anything for music or are classic rock! I don't know why it's so popular, but goddam it, I hate everything to do with it. The clothing, the scene, the sound, the attitude. It all sucks! It all stinks! So in short, I HATE INDIE. Independant music labels are different, because they may not be an 'indie brand'. We need to understand the difference between major and indie in that respect. But I hate: Indie music Indie kids Indie personality Indie attitude Indie clothes THE INDIE SCENE! |
I already hate this.

Lol, indie kids everywhere completely drool all over Doolittle.

I did say no haters, and to respect my opinion. It's an opinion. It's not right or wrong. No need to attack like it is. |

This is just fucking stupid.
You do know that it's impossible to discern between an indie kid from someone who doesn't even listen to music? They dress the same as every other person living in the Western Hemisphere. Jeans and a t-shirt: holy sh!t, now that's quite a statement. |
The Pixies are an indie staple. If in your experience "indie kids" don't know the Pixies, then your experience is atypical.
Mudhoney is also a pretty name-checked band, as a proto-grunge band, like Sonic Youth. Most indieheads like Nirvana and Mudhoney and love Sonic Youth. So, really, your entry doesn't seem to connect with reality at all. And it's not very well-written. Rants have to be amusingly written to be at all interesting. |
Actually, I think ALOT/MOST of what Cobe said is right on afaic, infact, I think i feel the same way about most of the ****ty "current" music/bands on the radio now. I'm glad I've kicked myself off radio now though, as these bands/music are just making it more and more difficult for me to listen nowadays. It all sounds the same to me, alot of these bands are just trying to steal from past bands, why? I'm not sure, but IMHO, they are.
|
I don't think Cobe's ever met a real 'Indie Kid'.

Most Indie "kids" love classic rock. By the way I'm 45.
|
I know a lot of people here are indie kids or fans, so I thought I'd get this one out of the way quick and early, but the fact remains that this is my honest belief on the subject.
But like I've said, these are my personal experiences. The indie kids I have met have all hated grunge, didn't know the pixies (actually they laughed at me for listening to such stuff) and the clothing has just been annoying. More than a jeans, t shirt thing. With stupid t shirts and drainpipe jeans in some cases. I can't stick it. |

This thread is gonna go nowhere fast.

i probably fit into the indie kid mould what with my skinny black jeans, big black hair and such (as you have bagged me about before) and i certainly know people who fit this completely...
but its just too much of a blanket statement: people are not all the same. on the other hand it is true there is a scene of bitchy little fashionistas who dont know anything about music...they read NME enough said and most if not all radiohead fans ive met know that they were inspired by the pixies i love all music from prog to hip hop from from rock to dance and jazz to classical and indie, world and grunge etc so its unfair to say that ALL indie kids listen to the same music and the pixies, the melvins, sonic youth et al that you seem to love are indie staple!!! i dont think you've been talking to real indie kids |
Look, I can't be bothered to debate this right now.
I'm really upset because of something that just happened. I'll come back to this in a few days. |

i never said i didnt like other bands from america!!!
i was talking about my favourites and the majority come from either new york or the uk i like the melvins - not a favourite but good i love the pixies - an exception i love sonic youth - NYC |
I have never run into an indie kid who didn't know the Pixies. It just doesn't happen. This thread is going to be like a car crash.
|
dont rag on him too much
its all about his opinion anyway whether it be well informed or not. i think scenester sums up what hes on about more than indie kid |

Aren't the Melvins on an indie label?

#99 http://cowsarejustfood.files.wordpre...008/05/emo.jpg Emo The emo's in society just make me want to give them a razorblade. First off, my definition of emo, is the stereotypical one. We're not going into details. I just hate these guys who slit their wrists, dress in female jeans and praise My Chemical Romance as Gods... ...because as we all know, Gerrard Way and his band of not-so-merry emo's is a complete douchebag... and he says he's not emo! Ha! The whole emo scene ruined nights out for me, because I can't go anywhere without seeing these MCR, FoB loving wristcutters dancing around with vodka at age 13! And a lot of them self diagnose themselves with depression and the like to fit in more into their 'I dont fit in with anyone' cult. The emo music is so drole and repetitive and annoying... singing about killing yourself and being hurt... wow... just sparks up my day! I'm not going into much detail here because I'm not in the mood... ..but here's a thought to end on. EMO'S, CHEER THE HELL UP! |
Is this going to be a list of 100 Genres that aren't grunge?

I'm not sticking to genres either, I used the last two genres as an umberella term. |
You're a retard.

You hate emo. Edgy. What's next, a rant about how Britney Spears is so corporate?
