the music you listen to is scientifically linked to your personality
don't know if you guys have heard about this, but a recent study (that survey some 36,000 people worldwide) has found direct correlations between the music we listen to and out personality type.
you can read my blog post about it here. Or you can read the entire article here. But, here is the information summed up. People that listen to heavy metal have a lot in common with those that listen to classical and are gentle. People into indie music lack self-esteem and people who listen to country music work hard. Those who listen to rap are outgoing. So, what do you guys think? Does it sound true? Does it fit the bill for you? because I really don't think it does for me. (while I have your attention, I'm going to encourage you to check out this. I think it's a site you guys might like. This is a link to my music list) Last edited by slim slow slider; 09-09-2008 at 05:34 PM. |

I would think there was a higher correlation b/w music genre and class in society, e.g. urban dwellers more likely to listen to hip-hop, rural folks more likely to listen to country, and higher disparities in musical choice between the rich and the poor.
I like to think that I have no set musical genre preference, but I know that's completely wrong. I'm as lame as everyone else.

That's a lot of people they surveyed, but it doesn't make it any more relevant or true. Generalizing an entire group of people's personalities based on what kind of songs they rock out to is slightly ridiculous.
However, I do know a ton of Indie kids and each one of them is riddled with low self-esteem. |

I like indie rock and pop....I have no self-esteem?
Of course, I like a lot of other things. So I guess I have all the strengths and weaknesses. Useful!

we're probably all in the same boat here. I think what differentiates us from the test subjects is that music is our thing. I mean, we're not "normal" when it comes to music. My guess would be that, if we're posting on musicbanter that we are much more involved in music. At the very least, none of us subscribe to one particular type of music and claim it as our genrea. However, I think the general population does do this.
