#87. The Unexpected A friend recommends an album. He hardly 'bigs it up' and of course with your own superior taste and knowledge, surely it must'nt be that good? After all, you have never heard of it right? Wrong. It turns out to be an undiscovered little gem chock full of great tracks. Double kudos points. Everyone is a winner. Latest examples : Metric. Silversun Pickups. Le Peuple De L'herbe.

#86. Film Soundtracks I am not talking about the latest bland blockbuster tie in. I'm talking about the soundtrack to those smaller/cult/cool pictures that unearth tracks that you have never heard and quite frankly; blow your mind. Scorsese is a genius at the perfect soundtrack, Tarantino is brilliantly idiosyncratic and Mann marries the image perfectly to the ambience of a track. Three examples why you should watch films more (purely from a musical standpoint): Deathproof O.S.T (Quentin Tarantino). How foot tappingly awesome is this: Raging Bull 0.S.T (Martin Scorsese). Nothing short of movie perfection: The Insider (Michael Mann). Sorry I have posted this in a comp but ex Dead Can Dances' Lisa Gerard is an amazing soundtrack specialist.

Unfortunately the unexpected rarely happens for me...maybe once or twice a year and usually from here. I think the 'Dig' album was the last time I was instantly blown away. Calexico is the only band making an impression on me at the moment. Wish it would happen more often. |

Not another Metal sub genre. So it is Metal that is influenced by hardcore, which in turn is punk influenced by metal and it is made by hillbillies..is that correct?
