I thought it might be fun to do this with twitter rules. This means that the post must be <140 characters in length. Describe your musical taste, and by taste I mean what you think good music is.




I’m a sucker for the classics, timelessness is greatness. A true artist must learn to balance ying (talent) and yang (reason).

There's two kinds of music. Good music and bad music.....I like the good music :)

stuff that makes your mom mad, but on the inside it makes her a terrible animal, just raving for more...lol

Any and all types may apply: Wanted; Rhythm that moves, Soul that Soothes, Horns, Strings, and it helps if they can sing.

I like music. And beer.

Music that makes me think how **** life is so I go out and change myself, then come back to the music and think 'oh how silly I was that day I changed myself!'

(this is an example of when i don't know what word is suppose to go in the ****, maybe i'm naive or stupid)

Music that transports me and is unique. I care more about texture and rhythm than melody or harmony. Electronic sounds usually appeal to me.

I'm guessing it was "shit".

Pop aesthetic: harmonies, hooks, melody. Also, layered and textured sound. And great rhythm. I like most things, but psychedelic rock and pop, shoegaze, Madchester, dreamy electronica, '70s punk and hooky guitar pop and rock tend to be my favourites. But I'm always looking for something new and different...experimental music like Captain Beefheart and Glenn Branca is a lot of fun to listen to. I can listen to and find something to enjoy in almost anything (as long as the lyrics aren't bigoted).

But ultimately, an immediately catchy and memorable three-minute pop song (whether the Beach Boys, Teenage Fanclub or Sex Pistols) is my first love.

I'm guessing that's way more than 140 characters.

i think when you wanna relax listen to jack johnson. when your rockin on i pump up like some rage against the machine or like somethin like that. but i really love RED HOT CHILI PEPPRES.

Oh, I misread. I thought 140 words. My mistake, sorry.

I love anything with soul, or a reason behind it, raw stuff, mostly older stuff, because it's a bit more real to me without an alterior motive (out to make a buck, etc).

Anything from 80's hair metal to electro funk. But, some songs are annoying. Basically anything that isn't Rap or Country (a few exceptions.)

music that moves my soul, talks to me, shakes me reinvents me.

There are too many exceptions. I hate country but love the first John Prine album. I hate bloated, pompous rock but love Who's Next. I don't care for dance music but like New Order. Etc.

I like anything that makes me want to dance, laugh, cry, makes me calm, pumps me up, makes me think, helps me not to think, makes me trip out, blows my ears off.
Genre is not an obstacle.

Genuine music, from the heart. Music that just shows off w/out substance is useless. Have a theme and/or a message, stay on track unless it makes sense not to.

Everything, complex music, expressive music, music that breaks convention, but also tasty pop and no thrills rock n roll.

My tastes are ridiculously eclectic but not always fashionable. Not that I give a damn. If you don't like it then don't listen.

I agree. Most music that is "good" does suck. "Good" music is music that everyone listens to. Most people think music is "good" because everyone else listens to it.

OR... music that a particular person thinks is good and nothing to do with what others think. That's how I took it.

I like basically anything that doesn't classify itself as Death Metal, Mainstream Rap, New Country, or Teen Pop

"Good music" is "nice" music. "Good music" is music that can esaily be ignored. "Good music" doesn't challenge people. "Good music" sounds pretty and has no further depths.

God, I hate "good music."

If your primary reason for listening to music is anything other than personal enjoyment, suffice to say your head is so far up your ass I'm surprised you could manage to hear it at all.

One of the best things about music is that everyone likes it, and that can only be said about a few things in life. I could see how if you worked in the industry it might get awfully boring though... take something you love and make it your job and you might end up hating it.
