They were good enough to be my gateway into rock music.
Random memory: I remember when I first discovered them, I was so obsessed with them, that when I first started playing guitar, my guitar teacher asked me to burn a CD of songs I wanted to learn, and 13/18 of them were Guns 'N Roses songs. He couldn't stop laughing.

I sure can (trying to skip the songs everyone knows, straight for the hidden gems)
(First of all, the lyrics were misunderstood, and I don't agree with the often assumed meaning) (I had to put this one last, it's really meant to be a closer) So, still think they suck, Downwardspiral?

GnR were totally a gateway band for me, I got into them when I was like 12/13 and they were one of the first rock bands I got into because I grew up on country music and I got pretty sick of that.
While my tastes have evolved a good deal in the past decade they're still one of those gateway bands who I enjoy listening to today. I can still appreciate simple, bluesy rock n roll and GnR were one of the best bands in that category. I do like that they branched out more with the UYI albums which I think are very underated. I honestly think there's only a few duffers on each one but there are songs that are definitely among the best work they have done. |

The first one is chalk full of filler to me, as awesome as the highlights are (November Rain, Coma, Dust 'N Bones, **** yeah!), but UYI2 is AWESOME. Possibly better than AFD.

I'm not that crazy about UYI-1 except for a couple songs, but UYI-2 is definitely equal to Appetite IMHO. |
