i renounce enjoyment of any music. i have decided the only way for music to be fairly criticized is if one does not enjoy any of it at all. from now on you can rely on me to tell you what is good and what isn't - because i hate it all anyways

garbage. what makes it different from any other pop??? i could really only think of one band that sums this shit up well: hellogoodbye. AND WOW. listen to "here in your arms" - what the fuck is this shit??? the album is called "zombies! aliens! vampires! dinosaurs!" - what do any of those things have to do with our lips touching??? i've skimmed through the songs and none of them have anything to do with zombies, aliens, vampires, or dinosaurs. how misleading. it sounds like they're trying really hard to make me feel happy but its just really bad.
i guess at least they're commercially successful (people actually like this shit???) i'm pretty sure the rest of the bands included in this genre are more or less the same crap NEXT |

oh wow where do i even begin?? so everyone knows what you mean when you say "nu metal"... shit like korn, slipknot, disturbed, and soad or "system of a down". basically, this music is rap & metal & other shit no one cares about mooshed together into one genre of music that really just ends up sounding like fast rock music created by adhd-addled kids that grew up to be belligerent, awkward adults.
my buddy said this about nu metal: Quote:
bands like this usually try to come off really agressive/depressed/damaged/etcetera but its just funny. case in point: "numb" by linkin park. my first impression of this song was "wow this synth is really bad!!!" my second impression was "wow these lyrics are really bad!!!" all in all i'd say its a pretty bad song. 13 yr old kids love this shit because it's emotional and "identifies" with them. no wonder youth are such a laughing stock however this genre does have a redeeming quality: it really really pisses off "TRVE" metal heads - mentioning korn or system in a down in a "metal" environment sends these frostbitten kvlt viking warriors into intese rages - exposing them as equally laughably retarded as nu metal fans NEXT |

Wrong. System doesn't bear any resemblance shitty nu-metal bands. Shitheads that call them such do so just so they can pigeonhole SOAD as something. Their music has breached many, many genres but has never come close to nu-metal. The misnomer stems from System's early tours with bands like Slipknot, but they couldn't be further than that aberration of metal.
If you want to categorize System of a Down as anything, the following genres are acceptable: alternative metal & progressive metal. Calling them nu-metal is just as way to try and justify one's biased hatred of them.

Daron has used a wide variety of instruments, such as 12-stringed guitars, sitars, ouds, electric mandolins, baritone electric guitars, and synthesizers in his work, and the arrangements show eastern folk music elements. And Serj's vocals were not "semi-urban styled," whatever the fuck that means. His transition from growling vocals to melodic encompassed huge disparities in pitch and volume, and didn't meander in the realm where most nu-metal vocalists force words from their mouths without emotion or pitch. Just because System of a Down is difficult to categorize doesn't mean you should pigeonhole them with the nearest rubbish genre you come across. And here's a helpful hint for the next time you think about talking: if you DON'T know what you're talking about, DON'T post. It's really that simple.

They're not a prog band but their recent works certainly have some obvious prog influences. They're far too eclectic for nu metal and there are no rap elements in their music.
