Some people organise their collections into genres and then hit them with notions such as :'I want to listen to some Post Rock tonight. What have I got?...and don't look at urbans RYM list. It makes me green with envy

Jackhammer mentioned one way it's helpful. Another one is simply that it's easier to scan a small alphabetized group of records than a huge alphabetized group of records so breaking it up into genres can help if you have an absolutely enormous record collection.

Now the idea of re-digitizing my CDs at a 320kbs rate has entered my mind and I don't have the time nor the energy to even try.

It would take something pretty special to be more of a nutjob than wacko himself yet some of his fans manage it with ease.
