On a similar note, I can't stand American psychedelic bands. What in the flaming fuck is "psychedelic" about songs that just sound like long-winded country music? England actually produced some truly psychedelic sounding music back in the 60s with bands like Pink Floyd and Soft Machine, but the US most just churned folksy, country garbage like the Grateful Dead.

I'm familiar with all those bands except Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Electric Prunes, but I don't find any of them particularly psychedelic sounding.

ETA: I just checked out both the bands I hadn't heard of on iTunes. Quicksilver Messenger Service is exactly what I was talking about with American psychedelic music, way too country sounding to feel trippy at all. Electric Prunes were better but still didn't seem all that psychedelic to me.

LOL. I've done a lot of drugs in my life but none of them ever made the Grateful Dead sound any better.

Someone obviously hasn't heard a lot of Dead if they think they're just a country band. Anywho.

You know what I hate?

Prog rock esque surrealism/fantasy album covers by everyone from low key folk singers to bland pop rock bands or anything that sounds absolutely nothing like the cover implies.

When I'm at a record store and I buy an album from some band I've never heard just because it has Roger Dean cover art and it ends up sounding like Journey, I'm gonna be really pissed off.

72 : ME

I don't know why people read these , i'm full of shit.

I've noticed half the stuff I say on this forum I contradict myself with just a couple of months later. I guess it depends on who's annoying me. If someone comes into a thread and starts hero worshipping a band in an annoying way , even if it's a band I like I can't help but start bringing up all their bad points just to annoy that person. I do the opposite too , if someone is putting down a band in an annoying way i'll just say I like them to argue with them. Even if i've not listened to that band in over 10 years. Just recently i've praised Whitesnake , Motley Crue and Kiss. I don't think i've even listened to those first 2 bands since about 1993.
The other week I found myself listening to the Libertines first album and quite enjoying it. don't get me wrong , I still think Pete Docherty is an annoying moon faced cunt but I don't hate that album anywhere near as much as I did a year ago. Mind you in my defence if I did say I hated it then it was probably to annoy some Docherty fanboy as I seem to remember my opinion of that album being that it has it's moments but it gets old real quick. Maybe not hearing it since 2003 or 4 has refreshed it for me without having to hear all the hype. It wouldn't be the first time thats happened I said the same of REM & Franz Ferdinand and I like both those bands now after slagging them off for years.

In summery : Ignore me.

P.S. Now i've put myself in this NOTHING is off limits

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

Nice try, but I've actually listened to a ton of the Dead. Not only have I had a large number of friends and roommates over the years who were fans, but just last year I got into a similar conversation to this one with a deadhead on another forum who wound up giving me five or six hours of their best live performances to listen to. I took my time and gave all of it an honest, open-minded listen and found 99% of it to sound like long, boring country-ish music. The only song I have ever heard by them that sounds even remotely spacey or psychedelic is "Darkstar", and even that is kind of meh.
