Personally, I prefer the first few grunge bands, they weren't corrupted by the record label frenzy.
Div, short for divvy, insulting word, usually an aim at someone's lack of intelligence. |
what did grunge actually give the world other than those first bands?
puddle of mud? staind? nu metal, rap-rock? ugh no thanks |
Pretty sure those last ones were because of korn, not grunge. But don't mistake me for a fan - the closest I can get to enjoying grunge is my appreciation for Shannon Hoon.

korn came out of the rejection of any kind of technique or musical validity which was promoted by grunge in a reaction to the over-produced and studio orientated music coming out of the late eighties
it seems to happen a lot the whole technique progressing to a point then being rejected its gotta happen so we dont end up with bands like yes running all over the place but grunge just did it bad |

&: Poor Righteous Teachers,YBT, 3rd bass, Black Sheep, Ice T, Beasties, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, Eric Sermon, Eric B & Rakim, etc. all of that stuff is tremendous to me, and i listen to alot of it on a weekly basis(along w/other 80s music). I just don't think "current" hip hop stands up to the older stuff, it's all ****ty now. They're more worried about selling Ring Tones, and getting on MTV cribs, than making good music, just my opinion though. I'm quite sure there's alot of hip hop out there that others dig, that i dislike? and it will continue to go that way. I just dont care for it. |

I think it would also be a good idea to decide what we want to call influence and what we want to call a "lifting of style." the bands being cited as the reason for grunge being a bad influence weren't really influence, they heard smells like teen spirit and hung up their posion cover band attire and went to the thrift store. Grunge did just fine in my estimation. If you think music can be fake today, the 80's did fake like no ones business. I mean, devo wanted to be robots for god's sake, that should tell you something. I think grunge went quite a ways in reminding the people that music could be passionate. |
Who the **** are "The Fall"? ;) guess I have some earning to do.
