It's fun to collect, they don't JUST sit there and look pretty - and sitting down to listen to a record is an event... not like plugging in my iPod etc, etc. I also love shopping for vinyl... crossing your fingers to find that rare album, that weird find that you love... bargaining - appraising the quality of the record. It's a hobby. Vinyl is beautiful.
Totally agree. While I enjoy cd's very much, I also just got back into collecting vinyl records. It's pretty neat finding something on vinyl(a certain track) that wasn't released on cd, plus, very cool to collect colored/etched vinyl. Im into collecting 80s 12" maxi singles, it's pretty neat finding different mixes of songs that you cannot find on cd.

I can see how it can get a bit overblown though. I think alot of the supposed "vinyl being in" BS is just that, BS. All the "cool kids" are doing it now(whatever that means).

If you don't think This is Spinal Tap is funny, then you have a horrible sense of humour.

If you don't think the members of the "band" are absurdly talented, then you don't know anything about them or possibly music.

If your post is totally serious, then you have no idea how funny it is. It's a Mocumentary dude, they're not a real band, it's an SNL cast member, the guy who does 1/2 the Simpson's voices and the guy who writes and direct all of the improv fueled films in the Spinal Tap ilk.

By the way, since we don't know each other, no offense just making a point with hyperbole.
FWIW: I think Spinal Tap is ****ing hysterical, and I didnt "get it" until about 15-16 years ago, when a friend and I watched it, and we cracked up throughout the whole thing.

Congratulations to the 2012 London Olympic committee events organisers for managing to encapsulate exactly what current British culture is all about in a 4 minute long nutshell in a far better way than I ever could.

Never quite understood this obsession/fascination folks have w/: Leona Lewis/Corinne Bailey/ and Lilly Allen? Sorry...I just dont "get it".

I was being ironic about the people that complain about such things.

You really think if I was so precious about plagiarizing I would have posted a list of about 50 songs by The Fall that are nicked.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

What the hell is this? An inlay CD booklet from 50% of bands out there in whatever genre. What the hell is it with these random images? Are they trying to be abstract or proclaim their love of modern art in a pathetic attempt to reach new fans? Stop wasting paper and my time in taking the thing out to take a look at in the hope that I may have read something informative. Morons.

Urban

Did you catch that programme on C4 about a year or so ago about the promoter Harvey Goldsmith trying to resurrect Saxon's fortunes in Britain? He failed because it's not what the kids want. It's only us oldies that want to see good working class Metal bands. Times have changed and so has the demographic. Even at grass roots, bands with members over 30 and just starting out have virtually no chance.

I didn't see the Saxon one , which is a shame because I saw most of the series.

I'm not saying they should be over 30 , I just don't see regular blokes in British metal bands anymore and it seems the ones that are want to do is either play dress up , try to become virtuoso instrumentalists or become as extreme sounding as possible. I don't see any who just want to get up there and have a bit of fun.
It happens in other areas of British rock , thats how we got Oasis & Arctic Monkeys.
