I honestly don't know of any decade that was "a sad decade for music". There's good stuff from every era and it strikes me as very closed minded to dismiss an entire decade like that.

A lot of my favorite bands were on that list.

There are tons of great bands from the 80's, you just have to dig a little. As Janszoon says, there is good in every era.

I didn't dismiss the entire decade. I said there were a few highlights.

I like the Cars but prefer their 70's work. I like the Violent Femmes, Gary Numan and Echo and that is about it from that list.

I obviously like other bands that didn't make the list but as a whole I find the 80's to be dreadful.

And there were alot of great bands on that list. The 80's were better than the 60's, close with the 70's, and weaker than the 90's and 00's (although Im most likely hyping up the 00's to be better than it is because its the only decade I've lived through and had an unhealthy music obsession).

Sorry, better than the 60's.

Are people supposed to get excited about this generic 60s list?

I love '60s music. However, these days, I'd rather listen to these bands over most of the ones you listed:

Jesus & Mary Chain
The Violent Femmes
The Stone Roses
The Happy Mondays
The Pixies
The Smiths
House Of Love
Public Image Ltd.
Joy Division
New Order
Echo & The Bunnymen
Blondie
The Cure
The Go-Betweens
The Minutemen
Sonic Youth
Magazine
Aztec Camera
The Meat Puppets
The Mekons
Gang Of Four
The Fall

The '80s had tons of great music. Every time I think I know which decade was my favourite, I think of a ton of great bands in another decade that changes my mind.
