I don't understand. Wouldn't that mean that Radiohead, RHCP, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, and Alice in Chains don't mean anything? 5 of those are my favorite bands for their meaning.

That's not what I mean. I'm saying that the term itself is meaningless since it doesn't actually describe a single genre of music that has any unifying stylistic traits. I mean we can agree that Radiohead and RHCP really aren't the same type of music, right? The only meaning it ever had that made any sense was that it was the alternative to mainstream music, but once it got so popular even that meaning didn't make any sense any more.

Ohhh, ok. Now I get it. Wow...I really didn't put any thought into that.

Oh God, I'm loving this thread. I was literally hurting laughing at some of it. I wish I had checked this out a long time ago or that I realistically had time to read every single entry but I have read most of them.

The Sharon Osbourne entry is something I could not agree with more, Billy Corgans hair made me laugh....just fantastic

WHAT I'M PISSED OFF ABOUT:

I'm pissed off that 99.3% of the public doesn't have the slightest idea who Blind Willie McTell is.

I'm pissed off that Bob Dylan still won't talk to Rambling Jack Elliot.

I'm pissed off that Mark Sandman of Morphine dropped dead on a stage in Italy a few years back. He was one of the coolest guys around.

I'm pissed off that Keith Richards fell out of a coconut tree in Tahiti. What the hell is a 66 year old man doing climbing a freakin' tree anyway?

I'm pissed off that all of those redneck reactionaries in Nashville hate Steve Earle.

I'm pissed off that Sly Stone is off in la-la land with his crack pipe instead of playing music.

I'm pissed off at the whole gangsta rap bling-bling routine. It's getting a little old after twenty years.

I'm pissed off at I-Tunes, I-Phones, I-Pods and anything else Apple sells with the letter I in front of whatever the product is.

I'm pissed off that nobody makes a decent first person shooter computer game anymore.

Uh... that's all. Time to go to bed.
.

False. There is Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike Source, Day of Defeat Source, and many others just as good.

Not AS good as the originals but still superb.

Was that before or after he snorted his father's ashes?

This is a very entertaining thread. I've found myself laughing hysterically in agreement and drooping my head in disagreement within minutes of each other. I think it did it's job.

Also, I've pretty much stopped caring about genres. The term "indie" and "alternative" are extremely broad and are becoming rather annoying. I love a lot of music, regardless of the genre.

I'm pissed off about 20,000 musical "genres." And WTF is difference between indie and alternative music? What kind of self-hating demented moron would waste their time even trying to make sense of the insane categorical geneology like the one below:
