Enough to form my own opinions.

It's just pretty boring, that's all.

To be fair, their albums have very few overdubs and are well produced. Not all rock music can be dirty or underproduced. On the other hand I could see that their whole ethos has a whiff of pre manufacture about it.
Rage was the first band that I ever really noticed how well produced they were... the political BS aside, their overall sound was very unique.

one can also argue they were trying to reach that other audience that was more attracted to the higher end production, who will then listen to what they had to say... making it more of a tactic then a contradiction.

If it was purely down to the music I doubt they'd even make the list.
Angsty rock bands are ten a penny.
I just find the whole concept of a corporate protest band too ridiculous to take seriously.

I always thought the lyrics of RATM to be the only redeeming quality about the band. Their music is very cacophonic.

Wow...who'd have thought Rage Against the Machine hating would seem to piss off people more than any other post on this thread?

I'm not pissed off at all... just sharing my personal thoughts of this band. I can totally get how they would be perceived as contrived, comical and sterile. I don't think too deeply when it comes to music... I see Rage as a band to put on when you want to get pumped up, not really when you need to learn something about history.
