17 : Radio 1 DJs Radio 1 DJs have always been a shower of shit. It used to be that there the place was filled with old men with about as much of a concept of youth culture as Clive Grandad Dunn. Now that it's all hip & trendy it's still filled with a shower of shit. Although for a period in the late 90s it did have something going for it and I did used to listen to it regually both at work and at home. During the day you had Simon Mayo who was a lot better than people give him credit for and you got the impression you were listening to someone with a brain in his head. Following that was Jo Whiley , i'll get to her later. After that was the highlight of my afternoon . Mark Radcliffe & Lard (aka ex-Fall guitarist Marc Riley in his comedy sidekick role) Who actually put on a decent show to say they were only allowed to play 4 records of their own choice during a whole 2 hour show. Then you had Chris Moyles when he was actually funny , I'll never forget his feud with the Daily Mirror 3am girls and the time Paul Daniels told him to fuck off and put the phone down on him. The daytime playlist sucked but at least the DJs themselves kept you entertained. Then it was back home after work to listen to the serious music with Steve Lamacq and then finally John Peel. All in all things were pretty good on Radio 1 around 98/02. Sadly after that most of the best DJs left and sadly John Peel died , and it turned to shit pretty much instantly. Moyles was moved to the breakfast show and has basically bored people with how drunk he got the night before for about the past 6 or 7 years. Jo 'Indie Queen' Whiley has been living on past glories for about the past 15 years and we're supposed to give a shit about what she says because she booked Nirvana & The Smashing Pumpkins in 1992 and apparently she's still 'hip & trendy' for repeatedly playing every turgid british guitar band going. As for the rest of them I don't know why they suddenly decided to go with celebrities but i don't think there's anything Sara Cox , Jamie Theakston or Ferne Cotton can tell me about music , or anything for that matter. It seems quite obvious to me Radio 1's policy seems to be get a known name and people won't notice how bland the playlist is. Oh and Zane Lowe gets on my nerves just doing a voiceover for a 30 second long TV advert so fuck knows how anyone makes it through his whole show. The rest of the roster seems to be made up of faceless dance DJ's who seem to have permanent residence in Ibiza playing to total mongs. And as for Tim Westwood , hell that guy deserves an entry of his own.

Absolutely. And if all that's not bad enough, you get the smaller stations over here, like Galaxy or Viking, with 'young adults' who all speak as though they are your mates and you're just in the pub with them. If ya gonna talk to me like that, get me a friggin' pint!

To be fair, Radio One has become so reliant on corporate sponsorship, it leaves little room for maverick D.J's. I have'nt heard Radio One for a couple of years but now my line of work has changed a little and involves travelling I am now hearing Radio One again and it's fecking terrible but that's how it is. We will NEVER have a John Peel and even if he is out there (I Imagine him to be a hybrid of a few mods on here , he won't get the time or space to develop and inform.
Radio One seriously does'nt matter now. In this day and age of the web and DAB radios etc we can still find off mainstream music. It would be nice to have a voice to guide us though.

Now Mark and Lard in the 22:00-00:00 slot, that was pure comedy and musical gold.

16 : Pete Doherty I can't remember who it was who referred to Pete Doherty as a 'moon faced cunt' , but it seemed to fit so well that I have called him that ever since I heard it. What I really don't understand about this whole thing with him is why he's regarded as some sort of song writing genius. I mean fucking hell have you HEARD a Babyshambles album? They sound no better than some pissed up pub band. I can't remember the first Babyshambles song I heard but to me it sounded like someone doing a Pulp song at a drunken karaoke. I mean don't get me wrong here , I own around 55 Fall albums ,If anyone can appreciate a piece of music written by a pisshead it's me , and I do think The Libertines debut album has some appeal to it, it's just very limited. That's why I only listen to it about once every 3 years. I find it tends to get old pretty quickly. I don't think Pete Doherty has anything particularly interesting to say , he's just a nice middle class boy acting the rock star using obvious targets to write about to appear deep and edgy , and people seem to fall for it. Let's face it if he wasn't out with supermodels and having a celebrity drug habit would anyone really care about some third rate Billy Bragg wannabe? I measure his contribution to music solo-wise to be as about as important as Donny Tourette. don't be fooled just because one sings cock rock and the other uses acoustic guitar and 'meaningful lyrics' that doesn't make the music any more substantial they're just as bad as each other.
