Default HEY NOOBS! Want a band or song recommendation? Don't start a new thread-POST HERE!

I need a song for a film. The characters are in maximum security prison. Some are nice guys, some are just psycho. They're all in there because of violence while they were in prison.

It's got to have fairly long stretches with no words (just music or beat or something) so we can use it under dialogue. It's gotta be serious, and it's gotta be gritty. I'm thinking something actually about prison or getting busted or something. Something about how much it sucks to be prison. Not "boo yah, bein' a gangsta rules", but more "damn, i miss my kids and my girl" sorta stuff. Gettin' it?

Bluesy, soulful is good. Cheery bad.

Thanks much.

Explosions In The Sky is pretty dynamic and isn't boring whatsoever. Godspeed is pretty good as with Mogwai, 65daysofstatic, Stereolab and others. But their music isn't nearly as brilliant as Explosions.

I'm really getting into rap and hip-hop as of late, but most of my stuff is pretty standard (Kanye, Lil Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Immortal Technique, Wu-Tang, etc). Recommendations that are none too obscure that I can't find online or too strange to listen to would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I just made a compilation of The Roots in Jackhammer and I's thread. You should check that out, also..Atmosphere. AND you really neeeed GZA's Liquid Swords album if you haven't heard it. Amazing.

how are we supposed to know what you find boring?

judging from the music you listen to now, i can't think of anything i could suggest you wouldn't find boring

therefore my advice is to just look up bands & request specific albums/bands based on what you think you may like

Well, I downloaded some Explosions In The Sky. I liked it a lot, particularly the second track. I think I'll do some blogsearches for more post-rock.
