Ok, I don't know if what I'm looking for exists . . . I want music that is technically competent (or brilliant would be fine ), musically interesting, preferably with clever or well-written lyrics, and . . . cheerful. Favorite bands are Tool, Ani Difranco and Pink Floyd. I also enjoy a somewhat eclectic mix (System of a Down, Danny Schmidt, Fever Ray, random dancing music) and I'm just getting into some funk. I have no care for genre, I'll try anything that might meet my criteria. My baseline is cheerful without being completely vapid, and I think that must exist. Help?
