I've been jamming Ulver's Teachings in Silence a ton lately and haven't had any luck finding bands or albums that fill that same niche for me. I'm looking for glitchy dark ambient juxtaposed with occasional acoustic instrumentals and repetitive chant-like vocals. Something eerie and dreamlike would be awesome.
Thanks in advance! |

I've been hitting a lot of dead ends in terms of new music, and this seems like the place for recommendations. Here's what I have on my Pandora station, to give people an idea of what I've been listening to lately:
Arctic Monkeys Brendan Benson The Black Keys Broken Bells Cage the Elephant Franz Ferdinand The Fratellis The Good, the Bad, and the Queen The Heavy The Hold Steady Interpol The Mars Volta Portishead Portugal. The Man Queens of the Stone Age The Strokes Jack White Yeah Yeah Yeahs You can assume that I'm familiar with an artist's former associations (e.g. Blur, The White Stripes). Any recommendations, preferably artists who are active today? Last edited by The Ice Plant; 03-12-2014 at 12:08 AM. Reason: clarity |

Spotify and Lastfm are good for finding recs close to similar artists. You could try going through the history of different genres. Check out the education of threads that we have around.

I guess I wasn't clear: I'm a music nerd. My background is in classic rock, psychedelic soul, and hip-hop. I've been listening to more alternative rock lately specifically because it was "alien" to me. Well, maybe not alien, but less familiar anyway. I'm looking for artist recommendations, preferably not country, metal, or progressive.
What I like about Pandora vs. those other radio apps is the ability to add multiple artists to your station, rather than creating a station based on a single artist or your iTunes library. With Spotify, etc., unless I've missed something, you have to pay to do that. |
