The general consensus seems to want me to start with Sittin' Pretty. Thanks y'all.

And if you want somewhere similar to go next after that, you might like Pontification by the Desert Wolves too. |

in that similar mood, but not that same musical style. But I'd take anything, really. everything is welcome. |

Well, these aren't IDM at all, but anyway, to start with Saltillo's Ganglion might be up your street;
^ Trip-hop with a modern classical twist to it, which is never a bad thing eh. A Colour Of Autumn by Lawrence English has a pretty neat, post-rock/ambient vibe to it, which might be worth your checking out too; Underworld's Dubnobasswithmyheadman is a bit livelier and more danceable overall, but still has a very pensive/subdued sound about it. I'd recommend you get that too; And if you think maybe some epic, gothic neo-classical would be your kinda thing, I couldn't recommend Lisa Gerrard's Black Opal enough; ^ If you think you might like those, let me know if you have trouble finding links or whatever...if you don't know this lot already of course. |

I am hoping someone can help me to find an album that is a little bit outside my comfort zone. Basically, i've never dedicated myself to listening to any music that came out before 1985 because i didn't feel it was applicable to my music taste.. now i know differently but i don't have the slightest clue where to start. I want something released before 1980, something loud with lots of instrumental .. no specific genre.. i just need something different to pull me out of this corporate robot lifestyle of mine. Help?
