Check out Ochre and Plaid (I'd get the Heaven's Door OST as it's probably one of their chillest).

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Sounds like you could do worse than get hold of some Eluvium and Oneohtrix Point Never.

^^Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella (1979), Merzbild Schwet (1980), To The Quiet Men From A Tiny Girl (1980), Homotopy To Marie (1982)

Basically first three albums and Homotopy To Marie are what I've listened to the most. They (he) have a HUGE discography, but I haven't heard everything yet.

Sounds like even that might be too much for him.

Check out the electronica subforum, atsmusic. Poke around some of the threads in there, they are full of YouTube clips that may help you narrow down what you're looking for.

^^What kind of avant-garde? High art avant-garde or 'popular culture' avant-garde? But, I guess that distinction is not clear anymore nowadays.
