But what's this to do with the thread?

I didn't really know where else to ask.

Thanks for the help, but I'm trying to find metal breakdowns..I never really thought I'd ever get into that kind of stuff and am kind of embarrassed to ask.

Ok, so all these bands/songs have very little in common. I'm looking for albums with a vaguely similar feel. Whatever comes to mind, really. The more off-the-wall, the better.

Godspeed You Black Emperor! - "Providence"
Joy Division - "Ceremony" (that song specifically, not so much Joy Division in general)
Cap'n Jazz - "Little League"
My Bloody Valentine - "Soon"
Deerhunter - "Twilight at Carbon Lake"
Boards of Canada in general
Sonic Youth - "Schizophrenia"
Modest Mouse - "Other People's Lives"
DJ Shadow in general
Laurie Anderson - "O Superman"
Radiohead - "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi"
Pink Floyd - "Echoes"
Brian Eno - "The Big Ship"

Thanks.

How familiar are you with Modest Mouse? There could be more there that's worth exploring if you haven't listened to it all.

If you like Godspeed You!, then perhaps you'd dig They Will Destroy You ("There Are Some Remedies Worse Than Disease"), Explosions in the Sky ("Your Hand in Mine"), or 65daysofstatic ("Aren't We Running?").

Since you like Boards of Canada, you might enjoy The Album Leaf ("TwentyTwoFourteen") or Black Moth Super Rainbow ("When the Sun Grows on Your Tongue", "Rollerdisco").

You sound like someone open enough to try a few different things.. like math rock?

Modest Mouse is, as it would happen, my favorite band. :D

I think maybe GY!BE spoiled most post-rock for me. You can practically live in their first three releases. It's hard to find bands in that style that are really innovative. Explosions in the Sky have been growing on me lately. Also, I really liked the 65daysofstatic song I'd heard (Retreat! Retreat!) but had forgotten the band name, so thanks. They sound promising. I think I hear kind of a bridge between post-rock and post-hardcore with their sound, sort of the same as Trail of Dead's Source Tags and Codes.

I like that Tera Melos song. Sounds like Don Caballero but more melodic. Kind of a hard genre to get into.

Also, the Boards of Canada type recs are appreciated. All those electronic acts can be hard to sift through.

Thanks a bunch.

It depends a bit on what it is you like about BoC...the downtempo electronic beats or the nostalgic tape loops and such. Or both.

Some I enjoy that are somewhat similar in one way or another: Freescha, Plaid, Geskia, Ochre, Keaver & Brause, Kelpe, Landau, Secret Frequency Crew, Casino Versus Japan, Odd Nosdam, Proswell, Proem.

Old school: Harmonia (and some others I've yet to get around to)

Some I've been meaning to check out (supposed to be pretty nostalgic-sounding): The Advisory Circle, Belbury Poly, The Focus Group

Also a few I don't really care for that still fit the bill:

Christ. (he originally worked with BoC)
Tycho (pretty much a BoC knock-off)

Just wondering what's everyone's favourite Velvet Underground album? (Except for VU & Nico)

Looking to get a few more of their albums, I have VU & Nico and The Velvet Underground (1969)

Wondering where to go next

EDIT: Never mind, I found the VU thread. :D

new band

Anyone heard of a band called God is 18? It's a band with ex MGB drummer Ian Browne. They're pretty good and pretty popular. But I'm trying to find an album and can't seem to locate one. At least not on the Internet. GODis18.com just takes me to myspace.

Anyone know of a song similar in tempo and pace changes to the "Tango de Roxanne" from "Moulan Rouge"
Thanks!

Anyone know some good classic rock? I know Zeppelin, the Stone, Springsteen, and that type of stuff. They type of rock that makes you happy to be alive, any suggestions?

Grab the Allman Brothers Band's Live at the Fillmore East and be happy.

Looking for some good music. I've been listening to a lot of Electric Light Orchestra and Billy Joel recently. Anything following those kinda lines would be great. Thanks.
