I've never heard of him until now, I'm listening to the album now, sounds really nice, countryish too, nice tone to the guitar. Cheers

Anyone got any modern (from the 00s) bands worth listening to?
Anyone?

Some more...

Karnivool

From the album 'Sound Awake'
* My personal album of 2009, Karnivool are a great Aussie Prog. band. I think this is one of the best written songs too. I've posted this many times...

The Butterfly Effect

From the album 'Begins Here'
* Yep another Prog. band. From Australia too, The Butterfly Effect sort of started a new wave of bands in this country to adopt this sound. They have heavier songs but this one I've always loved...

Paul Dempsey

From the album 'Everything Is True'
* I'm only posting Aussie artists sorry, I'll see if I can muster up some other bands. Paul Dempsey is from a great band called 'Something For Kate' and if it wasn't for Karnivools 'Sound Awake'I would put his solo album as my favourite from last year. Immensely good album. Very talented and overlooked performer...

Nothing wrong with getting the bands of your country out there! although I must confess.. one genre I can't stand is prog rock

There's just something about it I can't seem to connect to.

I appreciate your input though, modern brilliant rock bands are a rare breed.

I also wouldn't mind any folk type stuff, in the vein of Elliott Smith or Neutral Hotel Milk. It can be a singer songwriter or a band.

Thanks to anyone who can help
I see you said you don't dig prog rock, but the band that really got caught my interest in the modern day rock area is Mansun.

They I guess would be classified with the neo-prog, rock, indie label.
If you are interested youtube a couple vids or find the album Six (1998)

Actually Mansun are pretty cool, I heard quite a bit of their stuff through a friend a few years back... I'd go with that endorsement!

I listened to the album, didn't like it.

I think it's just the genre, I can't get into any prog rock bands for whatever reason, even such acclaimed bands like Pink Floyd don't do anything for me.

Ah, well sorry you didn't dig it.

I tend to agree that with prog of any nature, it can be really hit or miss. Either you love it or hate it and very little in-between.

I appreciate the suggestion Despite the genre being something I can't stand, there's always exceptions to it, so it was worth a listen.

6 or 7 minutes for a track is just too excessive
