Looking for something like the Pixies. Pretty much open to any suggestions so don't assume I know the obvious ones.

Anyone know what's the best Dog Faced Hermans album to start out with?

Anyone know of any good viola players? I've recently fallen in love with the sound of the instrument, but I really don't know of anyone (besides John Cale) that plays one.

Default Looking for Cool Oldies

I like singers like Edith Piaf, Frank Sinatra, Al Bowly, etc. I'm looking for beautiful, old songs, like from the 30's, 40's, 50's or 60's. What do you recommend?

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I could think of more bands if I thought harder but one of the first things that comes to mind is Modest Mouse's The Lonesome Crowded West. After that that you could check out the album before it and the album after it, and stop there (with MM anyway).

Frank Black's first two albums, Frank Black and Teenager of the Year, are also great.

I'm looking for some music with crazy time signatures, maybe like math rock. Any suggestions? Also stuff like Lightning Bolt would be cool.

I'm also looking for more stuff like both of these, so I'm eagerly anticipating other responses. In the meantime you could check out the album "More Skin With Milk-Mouth" by Giraffes? Giraffes! Some pretty crazy math-rock. Just discovered it yesterday.
