some bands i like are Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana.

Definitely look into some Soundgarden. You'd also like The Stone Temple Pilots although I don't.
If you into more of the Grunge-y stuff, try Mudhoney and let me know if you like them and I could show you some more gGrunge.

I like songs that are upbeat, with addicting sounds.
Usually for me to like a song it needs to have some kind of mildly or highly repetative beat/synth riff or whatever you may call them.

just to give you an idea of what I mean I will list some of my fav's

Benny Benassi - Love is gonna save us
Hakimakli - Ding Dong
Dj Antoine - Work
Alex Guadino feat. Sam Obernik - Que Pasa Contigo (Philippe B. And Romain Curtis Remix)

this is just off the top of my head, there are many more that I could share if you too enjoy this kind of music

basically I don't care how awful half of the song may be, as long as there comes a time during the song when is seems like all hell breaks loose and you just want to dance or go crazy or something

especially when ur on stuff that makes ur eyes go

MGMT is exactly what you're looking for.

I've often toyed with the idea of MGMT, but something always puts me off... they sound kinda cool, but I think they might veer into areas of music that plain don't appeal to me....

I recently got into the Bright Eyes and I'm really enjoying them, It's a nice to take a break from all that Grunge and Punk every once in a while.
I really like their "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" album.

Any bands you guys could recommend similar to them?

The Turin Brakes spring to mind. If any of these songs are to your taste, I'd recommend one of their first 3 albums - The Optimist, Ether Song or Jackinabox.

YouTube - Turin Brakes - Underdog (Save Me)
YouTube - Turin Brakes - Long Distance
YouTube - Turin Brakes - Fishing For A Dream (music video)
