Which country (within the Anglosphere) makes the best music?
I had to limit the options to English-speaking countries to get some kind of structure to the poll.

for sheer volume of great artists I would plumb with our rain-sodden little island (whilst acknowledging that all popular music can ultimately be traced back to North America)

Sh!t. I forgot Van Morrison was Irish.

The Brits and Americans will probably vote for their respective countries, so I think we will probably lose!
America provided the foundations and Britain built the house. My list is not a personal preference list. It is merely a list of artists that garnered success worldwide. Big 3's list has some great names and probably more influential or original (Waits etc) artists but for a small island our stamp on modern music is undeniable and indelible. |
I'm an American, but all of my favorite bands are British. The only American acts I really like are Dylan, Springsteen, Chuck Berry, Townes Van Zandt, Phil Ochs, and John Prine. Apart from the VU and the Dead Kennedys, I can't think of a single American band to get excited about.
