OT: Clearly America, the sheer scope of bands it keeps churning out it is incredible....(oh and yeah, not a big fan of anything older than 1990 so most classic British bands don't do much for me).

Which country produces simple present, as in right now?
I like to think Canada might actually have an indie edge, but I'd have to think that decision over. Def. approve of jackhammer's comment. Who the heck thinks Sweden is an English speaking country??!? |

The Swedish, probably. (Swedish isn't even an official language there). Seeing as how English has been a compulsory language in school since the 1940s, I'd imagine most people are pretty fluent. Easier to get around there on English than Quebec, I'd imagine.

America does folk, hardcore and mathrock better and that's 90% of what I give 2 shits on.

I voted America because that's where ALL modern music spawned from. Rock n' roll was in full sway before the Big Four came along, from the Chicago Delta blues origins and the works of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. Motown singers in the sixties spawned generations of R&B hits. The hip-hop revolution in the eighties was largely the work of Rick Rubin's Def Jam productions (and certainly remains a heavy influence upon current rap artists). I could go on for hours.

you certainly could, but we're talking about the proportional output of quality artists; and ofcourse it's all subjective to what everyone here considers to be good/relevant in their personal canon. it's the sort of petty and divisive poll that's pointless.
having said that, i wouldn't overstate Rick Rubin's importance in hip hop, at least not in a creative sense. hip hop was a grassroots revolution first and foremost. but then if it wasn't commodified by some fat white guy then would someone like me thousands of miles away have ever heard Ultramagnetic MC's or whoever? probably not. |

In terms of quality, UK definitely wins in my book.
Quote:
Genesis King Crimson Porcupine Tree The Moody Blues Radiohead The Fall Coldplay Placebo Motorhead The Clash Wire Nick Drake Muse Emerson, Lake & Palmer Camel Gentle Giant Caravan Venom Actually, ill take UK just for its 70s prog. alone I much prefer the popular music there as well than the ones in the US. And not to forget sweden along, just for its quality in terms of modern metal. Meshuggah Opeth Pain Of Salvation Dismember Dissection Sacramentum At the Gates Dark Tranquility InFlames Soilwork Bathory Bloodbath Katatonia Candlemass Amon Amarth Marduk Diabolical Masquerade Arckanum I could just go on, but ill stop for now. US comes in 3rd i guess. |
