Aus and NZ should be able to pool our musical talent in ANZAC tradition, but even then we can't measure up.
I would basically call it even between America and the UK, I love so many artists from each it would be impossible to choose. |

Looks like I'm a bit late for this poll, but what the hell. UK for me. If just for the sheer volume of artistes I love who are indeed British.
Besides that, for non-English speaking countries I'd say Brazil, Mali and Cuba |

Of course UK and America would get the top votes in this... they are biggest countries and thus have a higher population and more music artists to chose from! I doubt many people in this forum have heard ANY of Australia's best music because they don't have access to it/ because Australia kinda gets drowned amidst British and American culture. Or Australian bands don't have the opportunity to push their music to the best it can be because they don't have the exposure or funds.
Most of my favourite bands are from UK/USA for this reason. But I do listen to heaps of Australian music and think it's so much better than a lot of the stuff I hear from the larger countries. I think a lot of what's underlying this thread is not what country makes the best music but what countries have produced the most successful/ well-promoted bands which make good music... There is also a glut of inane and dull music being poured out in australia. A few years ago all we had scene-wise was "Pub-rock" - which basically delineates an AC/DC cover band, nowadays every man and his favourite pet is in an indie-electro band and there is still just as much ****e on the local scene.

Though the JSBs may be put in that indie-electro category lol jk jk Plenty of crap pouring out of every country, not even worth trying to rate it all... Though there is that current ACDC ripoff band (lol GREAT explanation Zarko ) That has happened to become relatively popular atm... Quite sad as it is simply the biggest rehash job ever. But I will take an output that includes DCD and Nick Cave over the negatives of all the crap pouring out any day of the week |
