If you could have written one riff, which one would it be?

The one riff I would like to lay claim too is "Smoke on the Water." It's not the greatest, but I'm sure it brings in the royalities.

Otherwise for sheer creativeness, I would pick Crazy Train

mr dave 05-20-2008 06:34 PM

better get hit in yo' soul - mingus.

Alfred 05-20-2008 06:38 PM

Know Your Enemy - Rage Against THe Machine

ProggyMan 05-20-2008 06:45 PM

Man Who Sold The World-David Bowie. Mmmm...

sleepy jack 05-20-2008 07:05 PM

Spirit "Taurus" I mean "Stairway to Heaven."

sl1ck 05-20-2008 07:46 PM

Haha ^^

Jimmy Page probably wishes he actually wrote that riff to.

Anyway, I choose "Sweet Jane." It's simple and catchy just like what a good riff should be like. For me, it's the quintessential rock and roll riff.

You Really Got Me- The Kinks

simplephysics 05-21-2008 07:50 AM

^
Nice choice with The Kinks, although I would have to pick Picture Book, considering the main riff from that song has already been stolen by both Greenday and Steriogram.

right-track 05-21-2008 11:48 AM

Crosstown Traffic - Hendrix.

Made all the better with the use of a comb and a piece of cellophane (similar to an improvised kazoo)...apparently.

Piss Me Off 05-21-2008 11:53 AM

I'll pick my favourite riff, The Smiths - What Difference Does It Make?

Comus 05-23-2008 01:43 PM

Heartbreaker by Page.

Brilliant in it's power and simplicity

Nirvana_man 05-23-2008 05:30 PM

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Basically when I was 9 years old and heard this song on tv, I was like "wow, wtf is that, I never anything like it" and till this day when that music pops up in my ipod shuffle, I still love that song, which I could of come up with it

winigwl 05-23-2008 05:46 PM

Chic-Good Times.

Inuzuka Skysword 05-26-2008 04:58 PM

The Fall of Troy - What Sound Does a Mastodon Make (main riff)

jackhammer 05-26-2008 06:45 PM

Let's go from 1 min 43 secs from this vid. over 20 years old but still kicks.

jackhammer 05-26-2008 06:52 PM

Virtually every riff in this god damn metal classic. Born and bred nearly 20 years ago and still classed as a piece of noise lol. Go in at 3:30 and hear some serious ****. Slipknot who?

Piss Me Off 05-27-2008 03:35 AM

Was that before or after Reign In Blood?
