Can't say that I liked or enjoyed Beach House. The best word I can think to describe it is bland. The instrumentation, the vocals, the lyrics, etc. It was just really boring and unmemorable.

Even if you guys don't like the album...you could at least try putting forth a halfway thoughtful response. The whole point of this thread is to listen to an album carefully and probe its contents with some depth. You should be making direct references to the album in question, not just saying..."I don't like this cuz it dum." Talk specifically about the individual tracks, the instrumentation, the production, the songwriting etc...and I'm fairly certain it wouldn't kill anyone to use examples. If you want to take up bandwidth with your non-thoughts...most of the threads on this site are devoted to such activity. This thread is supposed to be a reprieve from that nonsense. I understand that what I'm saying here is offensive, but for God's sake people...why frequent a forum if you have no interest in discussion?

Mmm, the main reason as to why I didn't like this album is because it was, dare I say it, dull and rather dreary. I mean, as far as song-writing and instrumentation goes, there wasn't anything particularly good about either of those two aspect. Lyrically, it was average, and musically, I just simply found it, as I said, dull and dreary. The thing that really annoyed me was the fact that there was not a single track on the album that stood out at all, and in fact I found it very hard to even denunciate between that different songs, as they seemed to all sound the exact same. And the vocals were bordering on just plain annoying to me during some tracks such as Apple Orchard.
I mean, I guess I could see how this might be something nice to listen to a nice summers night as some one already said, but for me personally, I find it hard to get through the whole album straight through without getting just annoyed or bored and turning it off.

Fair enough, but do you see how what you've written could be about any album if we didn't know better? For starters, what about the vocals was annoying? I think that's something which really needs clarification, because I don't see the vocals as conventionally inacessable in any way.

Well I could pick it apart, but I didn't want to come off as a **** about it. Plus, I don't have any desire to write a detailed review of the album I didn't like or that I plan on listening to again.

Writing a detailed review of the album and listening to music you may not have otherwise are, together, the elements that make up the entire aim of the album club thread. If you're not game, why participate?

I don't really mean to be a jerk or anything, but I'd hoped this thread might generate some genuine, thoughtful discussion. I know it's tough to muster up the energy to write long responses when you're not required to, I have difficulty finding the inspiration to do so, myself, a lot of the time. However, I think if we're going to regularly devote time to visiting Music Banter, we should try to make it as intellectually engaging as possible. We should challenge ourselves and make this a place to really explore music, which requires detailed discussion. I won't push on this album any more, because it wasn't too popular, and that's ok, but it would be great if you guys decided to write a couple paragraphs about the next album that's chosen. How 'bout this...whoever next posts in this thread gets to choose the next album...that way you'll get something you're really into and you'll want to give us a great, thought provoking post about it. Sorry I didn't post about Beach House...but I didn't know we'd moved on from the Built to Spill record. So...who's it gonna be?

Has this died already? Shame, one of the albums put in this was really good.
