If you could hear any album again for the first time...
...i.e., have no memories of ever hearing that album, and be able to listen to it with an open mind, what release would it be?
I'm thinking of Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run. It stunned me the first time I heard it; each subsequent listen has been more and more disappointing. I could say the same thing about Marquee Moon, for that matter. |
Daydream Nation

Nevermind the Bollocks- The Sex Pistols (i rememeber hearing it in the 4th grade and it changed my life) http://www.morrisseymadness.co.uk/ha...lease%20lp.jpg Hatful of Hollow- The Smiths (my first taste of the smiths, and wow i'll never be the same again) |

In The Court Of The Crimson King. When I first heard it I was absolutely astounded. Then I overplayed and now...I still love it, but it's not as great as it used to be.
|
I've completely outplayed every Elliott Smith album I own.

I wish I could re-live this. I've played it so many times. I remember how when I first heard this, I was completely blown away. |
Definately 5ives self titled debut. Classic album.
|
Thats tough but I'll have to go with my copy of "Dins" by Psychic Ills. First listen through was orgasmic almost.

Dark Side of the Moon.
At the end after the 1st time I listened to it I was like,I don't know what I've just heard and why, but somehow it made sense... |

I really overplayed this one. A while ago I listened to it a few times a day for two months, and haven't wanted to hear it since. |
"Room for Squares" - I used to listen to this everyday but now I skip it quite a few times in my ipod.
|
System of a Down - Mezmerize
It is not my favorite album by any means, but I thought it was a great listen, and it's more of a sentimental thing than anything. |
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. by Incubus. I was quite young when I first listened and my brain almost melted. I still love the album to pieces but there's no surprises anymore.

OMG! Ladyface! You were, like, totally my noob!
|
I'm sorry I abandoned you for a bit. You were guiding me and all that jazz. :D
|
Rebel, Sweetheart by The Wallflowers. I loved it the first few times I heard it. Nowadays, I just skip the songs on my MP3 player.
|
I'd say Metallica's Ride the Lightning
First rock album I ever heard. |
The Smiths' debut, or the Essential Simon and Garfunkel (with the same circumstances under which I originally heard it).

I have 2 distinct memories of 1st time LP listens.
1) Boston - I went to a friends house in 7th grade and he had a huge Pioneer stereo system in his bedroom (I had a clock radio) and he asked if I had heard the Boston album yet (More Than A Feeling was a current hit at the time), and I said no. He put it on, and maybe it was the awesome stereo, but I think it was the out-of-this world guitar sound that blew me away. Nothing sounded like that in 1976. I was speechless. 2) Pink Floyd/The Wall - I actually skipped school the day the album came out and went home to listen to it on my dad's strereo. I got high beforehand (cuz that's what you did) and tracked all 4 sides. I couldn;t wait to go to school the next day to give my in-person review to all my friends. It felt great to be the first. |
oh man, my first real music album was Californiication - Red Hot's
i overplayed that thing to hell, now i can still listen to it, but pretty rarely. |
Tool- Lateralus. This record will never ever get old. It is the Darkside of the Moon of this generation. I remember the first time I heard it still and it changed my life. Even after Aenima it was more than I ever could have expected from Tool. This is the record that I hold all records up to.
Radiohead- O.K. Computer. As a kid hearing this was quite an experience. At a time when I was starting to think all rock was headed in the same direction and everyone was doing the same damn thing Radiohead came in and saved the day. The effect this record has had on the records to follow it is extremely far reaching. |
