4. Okkervil River "The Stage Names (2007)"
This album is like a giant biographical awesome movie with its songs about cult pornstar Shannon Wisley to poet John Berryman. Will Sheff weaves you an album of stories, scenes and clever pop culture references that most screen writers would jump up and down for; the way he seems to paint a sonic movie is brilliant and the rest of the band show themselves much more dynamic and cohesive than ever before which results in one of their finest albums to date. It rocks, it weeps, it dances, welcome to the Stage Names. Favorite Song: John Allyn Smith Sails MySpace.com - Okkervil River - Austin, TEXAS - Folk / Indie / Rock - www.myspace.com/okkervilriver |

3. Elliott Smith "New Moon (2007)"
Yeah man this is a post-humus album that doesn't blow from the greatest artist ever. Do I need to say more? No I don't think I do, it's number 3 because it's not my favorite album by him and I don't want to be predictable and because I'd already played over half these songs to death before this was released which made for an awkward listen to be honest. But for someone who's never heard his unreleased stuff before and only his studio work this is a good purchase. I mean I did play the songs to death after all. 2. Jens Lekman "Night Falls Over Kortedala (2007)"
This is one of the most joyous, clever, best chosen samples, funnest and just awesomest pop albums ever and it's come very close to being number 1 in fact at times it was and at times it ties but right now I think it's number 2. I don't see how you could hate him, unless you A. like bad music music. B. have no soul. Oh and for the record ukuleles rule. Favorite Song: A Postcard to Nina MySpace.com - Jens Lekman - SANTA FE, New Mexico - Down-tempo - www.myspace.com/thesongsofjens |

On this site maybe, but in the music world I think he is vastly underrated.
New Moon was a great compilation, but Elliott would have probably hated it. Whatever (Folk Song in C) for instance, it had no significant meaning other it being a song he wanted to record. There's a reason these songs didn't make it onto any of his albums. Favorite song from it is probably New Monkey, his Big Star cover was pretty banging, too. |
