7. Man Man "Six Demon Bag (2006)"
So the crazy carnival side of Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart made a baby and called it Man Man and they made it listen to the Fiery Furnaces alot. This four headed, eight armed and eight legged baby Man Man decided to record an album and called it Six Demon Bag with drunken and pissed lyrics, circus sounds and funny voices Six Demon Bag proved to be awesome, that is all I have to say. 6. Ef "Give Me Beauty Or Give Me Death (2006)"
One of my favorite post-rock albums ever. They have some slight shoegaze influences, but don't let you think that makes them similar to Sigur Ros. They're not as twinkly, and in alot of cases are way less subtle, their climaxes and builds are usually quicker and more energetic and the male/female vocal combinations are more rough and less dreamy sounding. 5. Morrissey "Ringleader Of The Tormentors (2006)"
Well over 20 years later Morrissey shows he's still one of the most gifted lyricists and vocalists ever. Sure it's not the best thing he's done but its still damn solid and how many other forty year olds have the balls to bust out a line like 'explosive kegs between my legs'? God bless you Morrissey. 4. Camera Obscura "Let's Get Out of This Country"
Twee often gets a bad rep, probably because it mostly sucks but when it hits it hits. It's like pop but the best kind of pop, man. 3. The Elected "Sun, Sun, Sun (2006)"
Damn Blake Sennett knows how to make music. Hes proven to be a versatile guitarist in Rilo Kiley but with this second Elected album he veers away from the Elliott Smith-esque indie-folk sprinkled with electronics he had before to dive into a Beach Boys and Elliott Smith influenced combination of folk, country and pop that works so incredibly I wish he'd just ditch Rilo Kiley and stick with the Elected instead.
