ahsley simpson's snl screw-up
HAHAHAHA, this was just too funny. last night, ashely simpson was the musical guest on snl. at the end of the show, she was all set to perform her second set of the night. The first song she sang was "pieces of me", and she was supposed to perform another for her second set. however, the band started playing pieces of me again, and when a confused ashley simpson stopped singing, the track of her voice kept playing in the backround despite her completely immobile mouth. embarrased at being caught lip-synching, she simply ran off the stage.
I found a link for a clip of what happened: http://onetrick.net/Ashlee_Sax.wmv and, a repsonse posted by her on her message board: Please stop all the insensitive remarks. 10/24/2004 7:32:18 PM - by Ashlee Simpson I lip-sync, so sue me. You have no idea what it's like having millions of dollars being spent trying to make you a star. NO! 10/24/2004 7:40:56 PM - by Ashlee Simpson ''My band made ME look bad! They played the wrong song and the snl audio engineer queued up the vocal track to go along with it. They screwed over my career and that's why i didn't let them onstage. I'M SO SICK OF OF BEING BATTERED RIGHT NOW!'' after reading this, someone on the board dug up an old interview: An Interview with Ashlee: LM: What are your takes on lip-synching? AS: I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me. ya, i'm really bored at the moment, and this little episode on snl was just too funny not to post.

Well, I still see it as the show must go on no matter what. Though I do think it is funny that Saturday Nite LIVE seems to dictate a LIVE performance, I realize many, many artists are probably not singing live. Her and her bands worse mistake here, to me, is to not pick up the pieces and keep going. You have to have a backup plan, period. For things will go wrong. Talented or not, I am not discussing that. Professionalism, recovery from a mishap, and for goodness sakes, she knows the song...start singing live...but never walk off stage.
