Music Format

What music format do you use to BUY your music?

sweet_nothing 04-10-2008 03:01 PM

i think it's a cool thread..itunes.
though most of my friends like vinyl

sleepy jack 04-10-2008 03:15 PM

I have a box of cassettes from when I use to record songs off the radio/off my friends that I put on occasionally when I'm feeling nostalgic. I download mp3s and buy CDs/vinyl.

mr dave 04-10-2008 03:45 PM

why no all of the above option?

swim 04-10-2008 04:36 PM

click all of them?

jacklovezhimself 04-10-2008 04:41 PM

do you mean where you buy your songs from or where you keep them?

Lizzie 04-10-2008 04:47 PM

CD's and vinyl records are the greatest things ever,
So yeah, thats what I buy generally

And I usually use itunes to put song on my computer

I don't get what why people love vinyl so much I have a couple of records and a lot of singles I don't think it sounds much better.

swim 04-10-2008 04:55 PM

It depends how it was recorded and what kind of set up you have. I don't like the compactness of compact discs I like nice big art.

sweet_nothing 04-10-2008 04:57 PM

I like the art too.....does the age of the record effect the sound?

swim 04-10-2008 05:00 PM

Number of plays and exposure to humidity more than age. It takes a lot of plays to damage a record if you keep it clean.

I still have records that have yet to be released on CD.

Skid Mark 04-10-2008 08:34 PM

CD's and MP3s
But since CDs aren't ideal for portable listening anymore, mostly mp3

jacklovezhimself 04-10-2008 09:11 PM

No One Answered My ****ing Question.

satanic skinhead 04-10-2008 11:23 PM

Casettes are amazing. Analog is always a plus, you get 120+ minutes on one little tape, you get all the cool stuff, little screws, plastic case, magnetized tape, and an inlay. Awesome. It's the perfect medium for the underground who want to stay underground because most people will never take the time to rip from a casette. And the tape trading community is much nicer than any online sharing. The internet is so anonymous and effortless that you never really become part of anything no matter how much you download, with this, you can join the ranks of true occult elite.

What, no 8-track option??? ( I guess that would be "other"...)

In all seriousness though, MP3 is the way to go to have your music portable and easily accessible. I've also gotten into the habit of buying the CD's, or burning what I download to CD as back up, ever since my husband re-formatted our old computer and deleted all my music. I think I cried.

tkpb938 04-11-2008 08:33 AM

I've never even heard a vinyl, but I really want to, just to see if its as good as people say...

It's not. the only difference is that there is a slight fuzz to the sound, but that's just the needle dragging over the record itself. Anyone who thinks that "warmth" makes it sound better should start arguing that cds are better than mp3s because cds skip sometimes. It's just stupid. Anyway, sound fidelity isn't important, it's about the medium itself. Yeah.

That most certainly is not the only difference... Look up 'Loudness Wars' on wiki.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm trying to decide what format I should start collecting music in. I prefer to stay in one format but oh well.

jacklovezhimself 04-13-2008 12:13 AM

well i really don't do much buying music but if i can't find an album online i usually go to mp3sparks or mp3fiesta. WAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper than itunes.

Inuzuka Skysword 04-13-2008 08:54 AM

The only type of music I buy is on vinyl. I download everything else. I love collecting vinyls.

joyboyo53 04-13-2008 10:06 AM

i didn't read the part that said BUY.... in that case only vinyl

jacklovezhimself 04-13-2008 12:08 PM

I would be buying vinyl...but I don't have a job....

Dr_Rez 04-13-2008 12:21 PM

Perhaps someone can answer this question. I set up my new record player and put in Best of the Grateful Dead, and its playing way to fast. (for every one i try)

The player plays 33 and 45, so i am not sure why its speeding it up even more.

Night_Lamp 04-17-2008 11:37 PM

Rezz- What kind of turntable is it? Some brands, like Rega and NAD run fast on purpose. To give the music a snappier presentation.

Is is belt-driven, or directdrive?

Davey Moore 04-18-2008 12:33 AM

I only buy CD's. When I buy.

Zer0 04-18-2008 02:31 AM

Mostly CD, then ITunes, then vinyl. I pick up the odd cassette sometimes, there's something cool about them lol.

jacklovezhimself 04-20-2008 08:03 PM

I have a question:

would you buy a vinyl of something that you already have bought online or downloaded just to have it?

I purchase vinyl for rare tracks and b-sides. I like to have all my music in digital format because I can just listen to it wherever.

Poll closed to avoid this getting bumped in the future. The poll is rather awful anyways as it doesn't differentiate between analog formats, websites and even media players

If someone wants to make a real poll, feel free.
